Q: What is Aikido?
A: Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art that is primarily defensive in nature. You can learn more about Aikido here. Q: Can visitors come to the Dojo and observe a class? A: Visitors are welcome to drop by and watch a class anytime. Please feel free to stop by and observe a class at your convenience. Our class schedule is listed in the Schedule section of the site. The Beginning Aikido classes will give you a good idea of what your training will be like as a beginner. Observing the Intermediate class will give you a chance to see a greater variety of Aikido techniques executed in a faster paced environment. Q: What should I wear? A: For your first class you can wear sweatpants and a t-shirt or something similar. Shorts are not recommended as you will be kneeling during class. With your enrollment in the Beginner Special you'll receive a gi (training uniform). Q: Am I too old/young/weak/inflexible for Aikido? A: Aikido is practiced by people of all ages and builds, male and female. Waiting to get into shape or gain flexibility before starting class is not necessary. Q: What should I call the teacher? A: The head instructor, Kelleher sensei, should be addressed as "sensei" at all times in the dojo. Assistant instructors should be addressed as "sensei" while they are teaching a class.
